I used to have problems starting up my bike sometimes too. One day I got upset and took the tank off and traced all the wiring only to end up finding something simple... On the left handlebar controls is a little wire that connects to the clutch lever which is a kill switch so that you can't start the engine without the clutch disengaged. The electonics on that were shot! I snipped the wire, tied the two ends together, and stuck it back into the control casing and bingo! The problem is not an issue any longer.
